Showcase: 1/35 AH-1T Gold Cobra (Academy 2198)

AH-1T Gold Cobra (Academy 2198)

I Created the AH-1T Gold Cobra during two other bigger projects. This is the reason I didn’t take the build to serious, and just build it out of box. The kit was also used as a tryout kit, because I got another Cobra kit in the stash with the Big Ed PE set which I hope to build soon.

The Build

Academy’s AH-1T Gold Cobra is a very simple and straightforward kit to put together. With the few parts this kit has (compared to other kits!) you can build it in 1-2 days, depending on the time your glue needs to dry.

Apart from the seam between the two fuselage parts, no significant putty was needed to achieve a nice result! Very happy overall with how easy this kit is put together!

I have no pictures, sorry!

Paint and Weathering

After covering the model in grey primer, it was time to apply Tamiya’s XF-1 Flat Black. The one tone color sheme makes this a piece of cake! After the base color, some details were painted and glued.

Next, a clear coat was applied after which I was able to apply the decals. The decals went on nicely with the help of a good decal softener. I did not weather this model other then the rotor mechanism which was soaked in a dark tinted wash.

At the end I turned out as a nice AH-1T Gold Cobra which didn’t take much time to complete! I really like the gold decals on the AH-1T Gold Cobra, it really completes Academy’s AH-1T Gold Cobra!
